Mourning Dove

A mourning dove making its soft lamenting call.

These graceful birds are common throughout most of North America and they thrive in urban areas. Their call is a soft drawn-out coo that sounds like a lament.

Although their call is serene, they are capable of flying very fast and are able to avoid birds-of-prey with dodges, quick dives and speedy ascents. When these doves take off their wings make a sharp whistling sound.
